Historic Preservation

Adopting a local preservation ordinance, appointing a preservation committee, and designating historic resources is one of the best ways for the Town of Havana to protect the historic character of its buildings, neighborhoods, and landmarks from inappropriate alterations, incompatible new construction, as well as outright demolition. The Town of Havana has implemented Ordinance 387 to help preserve our historic downtown area.   Material changes to the exterior of buildings in the downtown area are regulated by this ordinance.   Requests for changes should be submitted via a Certificate of Appropriateness Application before any work commences.   The Historic Preservation Committee reviews the application before making a recommendation to the Town Council.
